Eagles’ Offense Falters In 4-1 Loss At New Haven

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore Kevin Fearon (Williston Park, N.Y.) scored the Post University baseball team's lone run on an RBI single by junior Alexandre Beland (Trois-Riviere, Quebec) as the Eagles fell to New Haven 4-1 in a non-conference game at Frank Vieira Field on Wednesday.
 
With Post (6-13) trailing 4-0 in the top of the eight, Fearon got hit by a pitch with one out to start the inning. After a walk by senior James Wong (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Beland drove a two-out single into the outfield to score Fearon.
 
New Haven (8-4), which is ranked 10th in the East Region by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), got three straight singles to start the fourth inning. Andrew Johnson scored on a walk by Stephen Clout and Joe Romanelli was driven in on a base hit down the right field line by Ryan Brockett.
 
The Chargers added a pair of runs in the sixth inning on and RBI double to left field by Brendon Buckley, which plated Brockett. Buckley came around to score on a run-scoring single to centerfield by Zach Collett. Brockett finished the day 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored, an RBI and a double.
 
Senior Hayden Allred (Waxachachie, Texas) suffered his first loss of the season. He pitched 3.1 innings and allowed six hits, two earned runs and five walks. Allred struck out two batters. New Haven starting pitcher Mike Aquilino improved to 2-0 this year after he hurled seven shutout innings for the Chargers. He allowed just two hits, two walks and fanned five Eagles.
 
Post will attempt to snap its four-game losing streak when it travels to Felician for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader on Sunday, March 25, at noon.
