WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University softball team swept Philadelphia at LaMoy Field on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles outscored the Rams 24-5 in the twin bill. Post now stands at 3-11 overall and 2-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play.
Cassidie Ern (Hope Valley, R.I.),
Lianna May (King Ferry, N.Y.),
Stephanie DeMartino (Staten Island, N.Y.), and
Christina Udris (Levittown, Pa.) each had four hits on the afternoon. Ern and DeMartino also drove in five runs apiece. May had three RBIs and stole two bases.
Game One – Post 13, Philadelphia 1, F/5
The Eagles used an 11-run fourth inning, helped by five Rams errors, to win game one 13-1.
Samantha Pagano (Marlboro, N.Y.) led the fourth off with a double and later scored on an error to put the Eagles ahead 3-0.
Ern later drove in two runs with a single back to the pitcher to push the advantage to 8-0, as Post scored seven runs before recording an out.
Rebecca Erb (Yardley, Pa.) had a pinch-hit single to centerfield to drive in a run. A single by Udris plated the eleventh run of the inning for the Eagles, pushing the score to 13-0.
Meaghan Lewis had an RBI single in the top of the fifth to drive in the Rams only run as the game ended after five innings of play.
Johanna Rice (Glendale, N.Y.) struck out four Rams and picked up her first win of the season.
Game Two – Post 11, Philadelphia 4
The Eagles picked up right where they ended game one by scoring two early runs in game two. Ern drove in the first score with a ground-rule double to centerfield in the second inning.
Brandi Davis (Magnolia, Del.) plated the second run with a single up the middle.
Philadelphia answered back with a run in the top of the third as Stephanie Martin scored on an errant throw by the Eagles. Udris put Post ahead 3-1 in the bottom of the third with a single to right field.
After two singles by the Rams, Samantha Abromavage gave Philadelphia its only lead of the day in the fourth inning with a three-run homer to centerfield to make the score 4-3. The lead didn't last long as Post scored two in the bottom of the inning to pull ahead for good.
Post put the game away with a six-run sixth inning. Ern drove in two runs on a single to right field.
Ashley Cummings (Stafford, Va.) pitched a complete game and struck out four to win her second game of the season.
The two games were the first to be played at the newly-renovated LaMoy Field.
Post will be back in action on Tuesday, March 20, with a doubleheader at Concordia. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
