WILMINGTON, Del. – Wilmington scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth to propel the host Wildcats to a 12-7 victory over the Post University baseball team on Wednesday. Senior James Wong (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was a home run short of the cycle, while junior Alex Villar (Mesa, Ariz.) and freshman Taylor Carr (St. James, Ontario) totaled three RBIs apiece.

The top three spots in the Eagles' lineup – Wong, senior Todd Blair (Ajax, Ontario) and Villar – scored all seven runs on the day. The trio went 5-for-10 at the plate with four walks in the non-conference matchup.

Post (4-9) opened the scoring in the top of the first. Wong singled to start the game. After Blair walked, Villar grounded out to third, and allowed both runners to advance to third and second, respectively. Carr drove in Wong on a groundout to second.

The Wildcats evened the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the second on consecutive doubles by Jonathan Rodriguez and Adam Soley. However, the Eagles answered with a two-run third inning to take a 3-1 lead. Carr drove in his second run of the game, while junior Chase Loudenback (Hutchinson, Kan.) plated Villar on a base hit through the right side.

In the Wilmington (8-4) half of the fourth, the Wildcats used three singles, two doubles and a triple to score six runs and claim a 7-3 lead, one it would not relinquish for the remainder of the afternoon.

Wong kick-started a two-run spurt for Post in the fifth with a leadoff triple. After a Blair walk put runners on the corners, back-to-back hits through the right side from Villar and Carr drove in runs. The Eagles trailed 7-5 after their half of the fifth.

Wilmington combined to score four runs in the bottom of the seventh and the bottom of the eighth, while Post answered with a pair of runs in the top of the ninth.

Carr suffered his first loss of the season. He started the game and tossed the first 3.1 innings, and gave up nine hits and five earned runs. As a team, the Wildcats racked up 18 hits in the game.

Post will host Saint Rose in its home opener tomorrow, Thursday, March 15, at 3 p.m. The game will be played at Municipal Stadium
