MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Post University baseball team began the 2012 season with a split against #16 Franklin Pierce on Friday night. The Eagles won game two, 4-3, keyed by a bases clearing triple by junior Joe Diz (Albuquerque, N.M.), but dropped game one 10-3. The games were part of the Northeast Challenge.

Game One - #16 Franklin Pierce, 10, Post 3
After the Ravens jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, Post (1-1 overall) responded with a three-run third inning. A one-out bunt single by senior James Wong (Brooklyn, N.Y.) started things off. After a single by Diz, and junior Alex Villar (Mesa, Ariz.) drew walk a walk in consecutive at bats, junior Todd Blair (Ajax, Ontario) plated two runs on a base hit, and Villar advanced to third on the play.

During Taylor Carr's (St. James, Ontario) at bat, Post used a double steal to score its third run of the frame. Blair swiped second base and Villar stole home. The three-run third gave the Eagles a 3-1 advantage.

Franklin Pierce scored nine of its 10 runs from the fourth to the seventh innings. The Ravens plated a pair of runs in the fourth, single runs in the fifth and sixth, and notched a five-inning seventh to put the game out of reach.

Senior Cutler Ruby (Diboll, Texas) suffered the loss and fell to 0-1 on the year. He went 5.1 innings and allowed 10 hits, five runs, four of which were earned and struck out two batters.

Game Two – Post 4, #16 Frankin Pierce 3
Franklin Pierce struck first in the top of the fourth on an RBI single by shortstop Dan Kemp. However, the Eagles responded with a four-run fourth to take the lead for good. With junior Bobby Rodriguez (Carmel, N.Y.) on second and Carr on third and one out, Wong hit an RBI single that scored Carr to even the score at 1-1.

After junior Chase Loudenback (Hutchinson, Kan.) was hit by a pitch to load the bases, classmate Zach Brecht (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) struck out swinging for the second out. The next batter, Diz, cleared the bases with a three-RBI triple to give Post a 4-1 lead.

In the top of the fifth, Franklin Pierce (1-1 overall) answered with a two-RBI triple from Nick LaCroix to cut its deficit to one run, 4-3. However Post starter Stephen Corbett (Prospect, Conn.) shut the door and did not allow a run over the final two innings.
