WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University men's soccer team stayed undefeated in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) on Saturday as they defeated Goldey-Beacom 5-1. Post has won or tied its last seven CACC games and the last 15 at home.
Senior
Matt Luis (Naugatuck, Conn.) scored his first goal of the season and recorded two points on the day. Junior
Ani Lekaj (Sherman, Conn.) recorded two shots and a goal. Four Eagles had two shots in the victory.
In the 37
th minute, Sophomore
Terrell Whitting (Naugatuck, Conn.) crossed the ball over the middle, but Goldey-Beacom goalkeeper Ignacio Farias bobbled the ball. Luis came up and drove it to the back of the net to give the Eagles the early lead.
The Lightning (2-9, 0-7 CACC) scored late in the half off a penalty kick by Jorge Saad. A slide tackle by the Eagles in the penalty box led to the score. The teams went into the half tied 1-1.
At the beginning of the second half, senior
Ivor Robertson (Portland, Jamaica) dribbled through the defense to give Post the victory for good. Robertson launched a shot from the middle of the penalty area in the 49
th minute for his first-career goal.
Three minutes later the Eagles added another. Luis crossed a ball over the middle as Lekaj booted in his first goal of the season and gave Post a 3-1 advantage.
Senior
Eltany Morais (Cape Verde Islands) passed it ahead to sophomore
Gustavo Ferreira (Betim, Brazil). Ferreira dribbled by a defender and gave junior
Steven Vaz (Beacon Falls, Conn.) the ball. Vaz hit the back of the net for his first goal of the season in the 80
th minute, giving the Eagles a 4-1 lead.
Post tacked on one more in the 85
th minute. Freshman
Raphael Moura (Danbury, Conn.) kicked it in from just inside the penalty box for his third goal of the season.
The Eagles (6-2-3, 4-0-3 CACC) outshot the Lightning 17-8 in the victory. Sophomore
Andre Lindsay (Clarendon, Jamaica) recorded four saves and improved to 2-1 on the season.
Post will be back in action at LaMoy Field on Tuesday, Oct. 9 against NYIT. The match begins at 4 p.m.
