PREVIEW: Eagles Continue Road Swing At Dowling, Holy Family

After it earned its highest regional ranking, top-25 consideration and a clean sweep of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) and Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) weekly awards, the Post University men's soccer team will continue its four-match road trip at Dowling and Holy Family. The Eagles will take on the Golden Lions Wednesday night and be at the Tigers on Saturday afternoon.

Powered by three second half goals and two assists by junior Kevin Ipina (Danbury, Conn.), the Post University men's soccer team earned a 3-0 victory at Chestnut Hill in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Andre Lindsay (Clarendon, Jamaica) earned his second shutout of the season, and he earned his team-best fifth win of the season.
 
Junior Joe Baccielo (Stratford, Conn.) netted his 12th marker of the season and freshman Raphael Moura (Danbury, Conn.) scored for the fifth time this year. Senior Eltany Morais (Cape Verde Islands) found the back of the net for the second time this season. Baccielo and Moura rank first and second on the Eagles in goals.
 
CACC/ECAC Clean Sweep:
On Monday and Tuesday, three members of the program swept both the CACC and ECAC weekly awards. Kevin Ipina and Raphael Moura were named the CACC Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, while Ipina and sophomore Andre Lindsay picked up ECAC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week. Ipina, a left back, tallied two goals and two assists. He netted both goals in a 2-1 victory over NYIT, which included the game-winning marker with 36 seconds left in regulation. He capped the week with a pair of assists in the Eagles' 3-0 CACC victory at Chestnut Hill. For the week he tallied two goals, two assists and a game-winning goal. Ipina leads the conference in assists with eight.
 
Lindsay earned his second clean sheet of the season as he wrapped up a 3-0-0 week for Post with a 3-0 win at Chestnut Hill. He also picked up one-goal victories over NYIT and Caldwell at home. For the week, Lindsay made eight saves and boasted a goals against average of 0.67.
 
Regional Ranking:
Post moved up to fifth in the NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II East Region on Tuesday. Over each of the last three weeks the Eagles have moved up one spot each week. Additionally, Post received votes in the NSCAA Division II Top 25 on Tuesday.
 
In The All-Time Record Books:
On the active roster, Post boasts three of the top-four goal scorers in the program's Division II history. Senior Francis Eno (Powder Springs, Ga.) sits second all-time with 26 tallies, junior Joe Baccielo (Stratford, Conn.) is third with 19 goals and senior Eltany Morais (Cape Verde Islands) is ranked fourth with 16 goals. The trio is chasing Eurica Trowers who netted 32 markers in his collegiate career from 2006-08.
 
Conference Leaderboard:
Three Post players rank in the top-two in six statistical categories in the CACC. Joe Baccielo sits atop the leaderboard in points with 29 and is second in goals with 12. Kevin Ipina leads the CACC in assists with eight. Defensively, Errol Reid leads the CACC in save percentage (.844), goals against average (0.78) and goals against (five).
 
On the National Scene:
In the latest NCAA statistics report, which includes matches through Oct. 14, Baccielo and Ipina rank in the top-30 in six scoring categories. Baccielo is sixth in total points (29), seventh in total goals (12), 11th in goals per game (0.86) and 14th in points per game (2.07). Ipina is 14th in total assists and 26th in assists per game.
 
All-Time Series With Dowling:
Post and Dowling have played to double overtime draws in each of the last two meetings; however the Eagles have never beaten the Golden Lions in the all-time series. The previous meetings were all contested on Long Island.

Scouting The Golden Lions:
Dowling enters the non-conference matchup with a record of 2-11-1 and is 1-6 in home contests. Statistically, Stefan Draskovic netted five goals and Sean Dougherty adds two goals and two assists. Chris Friedl has started eight matches in goal and has made 27 saves. He is 1-4-1 on the year and maintains a 2.09 goals against average.
 
All-Time Series With Holy Family:
Post is 6-7-2 all-time against Holy Family and the Eagles won each of the last two meetings. Last season, Post defeated Holy Family at home in double overtime to clinch the CACC Regular Season Title, the first in program history. Twelve days later, the Eagles ended the Tigers' season in the CACC semifinals with a 4-2 win.

Scouting The Tigers:
Holy Family enters the week with a 7-5-2 overall record and is 4-3-1 in conference tilts. Prior to their contest with the Eagles, the Tigers will travel to Wilmington for a CACC match on Oct. 18. Dodji Freitas leads the CACC with 13 goals and is second in points with 28, one behind conference leader Joe Baccielo. Kelly Diaz leads the defense with a 1.93 goals against average and a save percentage of .681. He has made 49 stops this season.

Preseason Prognostications:
The Post men's soccer team was pegged as the favorite to win the CACC in the preseason poll, which was announced by conference officials on Aug. 22. The defending regular season champions, Post was awarded four first-place votes and 127 points by the league's 12 head coaches.
 
Reigning Regular Season Champs:
Powered by an 8-2-1 conference record during the 2011 campaign, the Post men's soccer team claimed its first CACC Regular Season Title in program history. The Eagles clinched the title with a 1-0 overtime victory over Holy Family on Oct. 22, after a goal by Francis Eno (Powder Springs, Ga.) with 12 seconds remaining in the contest. Post was the top seed in the conference tournament, which it lost in the championship match.
 
Humble Tournament Hosts:
Post University will serve as the host of the 2012 CACC men's and women's soccer championship from Nov. 1-3. The conference tournament semifinals and championship games will be contested in Waterbury. Following the quarterfinals at campus sites, the four remaining teams in both the men's and women's bracket will advance to the neutral site in Waterbury.
 
On The Horizon:
The Eagles will round out the 2012 regular season next week when they take on LIU Post and Nyack. Currently the Pioneers are ranked third in the nation. Post will travel to LIU Post on Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 3 p.m., and it will host Nyack on Friday, Oct. 26, in a rematch of the 2012 CACC Tournament championship game.
