LAKEWOOD, NJ (May 6, 2011) Post University's softball team took on the Caldwell Cougars Friday afternoon in the CACC Tournament falling 5-4. The Eagles end their season with a 24-24 record, but it was not for a lack of drama.

“I told the team I could not be more proud of them because they worked hard every single day,” said Tracey Garofalo, Eagles Head Coach.”We brought in eight new freshmen and nobody knew anyone yet they became a team and that is the most important thing that I can take from the season. Everyone contributed including Ashley Cummings who did a great job pitching.  Everyone stepped up when they had to and now they know they can compete with anyone.”

After a scoreless first the Eagles got the bats swinging in the top of the second. With two out, Kim Bentson reached base when Caldwell's catcher Marisa Tamez dropped a fly ball. Lianna May took advantage by hitting her fourth double of the season as Bentson rounded the bases making it 1-0 Eagles.

Caldwell evened the score in the bottom of the inning tying the game at one and then took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third.

In the top of the fourth, first team All-Conference selection Amy Mantha led off with a single. Stephanie DeMartino then blasted a double to left center moving both into scoring position. Christina Udris hit an RBI single to bring in Mantha tying the game a two.

Cassidie Ern walked to load the bases with no out with Udris and DeMartino on second and third. May picked up her second RBI of the game with a sacrifice scoring Udris and giving Post a 3-2 edge.

Caldwell right fielder Nicole Velardi hit a lead-off homerun to tie it once again at three. The Cougar's extended the lead in the bottom of the fifth scoring two runs to make it 5-3.

In the top of the sixth, Udris hit a lead-off homerun of her own to cut the Caldwell lead to one.

Trailing 5-4 heading into the top of the seventh Jackie Bonamassa singled, but Amy Mantha reached on a fielder's choice as Bonamassa was thrown out at second. Ashley Pieta entered the game to pinch run for Mantha and advanced to third on a DeMartino double.

After her homerun earlier in the game, Caldwell intentionally walked Udris to load the bases with two out brining Cassidie Ern up to bat. Ern made solid contact with the ball sending it down the third base line to Cassandra Cefolo who tagged third for the final out.

Caldwell took a 5-4 win and will advance. The Eagles end their season 24-24.
