WATERBURY, Conn (May 6, 2011) Post University's baseball team is the No. 3 seed for the 2011 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament. The Eagles will host Chestnut Hill in the opening round of the tournament on Tuesday May 10 at 2pm at Municipal Stadium.
The two teams have met four times this season including two non-conference games in Florida on March 11. The Eagles took a 10-2 and 4-3 victory that day. On April 30, the Eagles traveled to Philadelphia falling with 7-1 and 5-4 (16 innings) scores splitting the season series 2-2.
The Eagles come into the game 22-16 overall and 12-8 in conference. The team continues to be led by Brendan Barry who is batting .370 in conference with 30 hits and 11 RBIs. Travis Locascio is hitting .318 with 15 RBIs in CACC games.
Pitcher Cutler Ruby has a 1.06 ERA and is 2-1 in conference. Steven Corbett leads the team in overall pitching statistics with a 1.31 ERA and a 6-1 record with five shutouts and one save. Corbett is ranked 11th nationally for his ERA and is currently tied for fourth on the all-time single season win list with Richie Pierro, Brendan Wyman, and Michael Wolfe.
As a team the Eagles are maintaining the lowest ERA in program history with a 2.55, which is 10th in the nation among Division II teams.
In the field Post University has a .972 fielding percentage, which is 8th best in Division II.
Chestnut Hill has won six of their last seven games and come into the tournament as the No. 6 seed.
It is the second consecutive season the Eagles have made the post-season tournament and the first time they will host a CACC game since 2004.
Game time is set for 2pm at Municipal Stadium in Waterbury on Tuesday May 10.
