WATERBURY, Conn. (April 30, 2011) Post University's softball team earned a spot in the CACC playoffs with a 10-3 win over USciences on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles fell in game two by a score of 2-1.
The Eagles have delivered above and beyond the expectations set by the CACC pre-season poll when the team was picked to finish 10th. Tracey Garofalo and a talented young team that lacks having even a single senior on the squad will now have the chance to compete for the conference title.
Game one sealed the post-season berth for the Eagles and it all started in the third when trailing 3-0, the team score nine runs in one inning.
Lianna May doubled to lead-off and Sam Pagano reached on an error moving into scoring position with a steal. Brandi Davis hit an RBI double and Amy Mantha hit an RBI single to score both runners.
Christina Udris then singled to score Jackie Bonamassa who singled with a bunt to tie the game at three. Kim Bentson grounded out for the second out of the inning, but brought in Mantha on the play.
Before the inning ended, May and Davis each hit 2 RBI doubles to make it 9-3 Eagles
In the seventh, May picked up another RBI with a single scoring Udris for a 10-3 win and a playoff berth. Ashley Cummings picked up her 14th win of the season.
In game two, Davis singled to lead-off the game in the top of the first and after moving over on a passed ball scored with a Bonamassa RBI single. It would be the only run of the game for the Eagles as USciences would go on to score two in the bottom of the second for a 2-1 victory.
