WATERBURY, Conn. (April 30, 2011) Post University's baseball fell in a double header against Chestnut Hill Saturday afternoon. Game one was a 5-4 going 16 innings while game two was 7-1.
In game one, the Eagles jumped on the scoreboard first in the top of the second when Ralph Dieguez singled, moved to second on a Russ Sirko sacrifice bunt, and then to third with an Alex Jahn single. He scored on a wild pitch to make it 1-0.
In the top of the third, James Wong reached on an error and Brendan Barry singled. A sacrifice from Aaron Lerma moved both runners as Wong too would score on a wild pitch. Dieguez hit a RBI single to score Barry for a 3-0 lead.
The Griffins scored three in the bottom of the inning to tie the game and took the lead in the bottom of the fifth 4-3.
In the top of the eighth, Travis Locascio and Barry singled as Locascio would score on a Sirko sacrifice sending the game into extra innings. Chestnut Hill would score the eventual winner in the bottom of the 16th ending a long first game.
Steven Corbett went 8 innings and Cutler Ruby went 7.2 with the loss.
In game two, the Griffins led 5-0 through six innings. In the top of the seventh, Lerma lead-off with a bunt single and Dieguez moved him over with a base hit. Ian Toro singled through the left side scoring Lerma for the only Eagle run of the game. Chestnut Hill took a 7-1 win.
The Eagles will return to competition on Wednesday for senior day as they host UMass-Lowell.
