WATERBURY, Conn. (April 29, 2011) Post University's softball team split a conference double header with Philadelphia Friday afternoon with a 6-4 loss and a 5-2 win in game two.
Game one was scoreless through two innings as Philadelphia broke the ice in the bottom of the third. The Rams extended the lead to 3-0 after four, but the Eagles would start a rally in the top of the sixth.
With one out, Jackie Bonamassa and Amy Mantha singled. Stephanie DeMartino then hit a two RBI double closing the score to 3-2.
The Eagles tied the game in the seventh when with two out and Kim Bentson on with a single, scored on an error by the Ram's right fielder sending the game into extra innings.
The eighth went scoreless setting up the international tie-breaker in the ninth. Cassidie Ern was placed on base and with two out and Sam Pagano reached on an error scoring Ern to make it 4-3 Post.
In the bottom of the inning though, with two runners on and two out Philadelphia's Devin Griglick hit a walk off three run homerun to win the game 6-4.
In game two, the Eagles got on the board first with two runs in the fourth inning. Amy Mantha homered to lead off the inning and Stephanie DeMartino doubled for the next at bat. She would score on a double from Kim Bentson to make it 2-0.
Post would score the eventual winning run in the fifth when Mantha hit an RBI double scoring Brandi Davis who singled and moved Jackie Bonamassa into scoring position. DeMartino then connected on a two RBI hit, this time a single scoring both runners an extending it to a 5-0 lead.
The Rams scored one in the fifth and one in the sixth as the Eagles took game two 5-2. Johanna Rice picked up here sixth win of the season.
Post University will stay in Philadelphia tonight to take on USciences on Saturday.
