WATERBURY, Conn. (April 26, 2011) Post University's softball team took a step in the right direction in their efforts to make the CACC post-season softball tournament. The Eagles split a home double header with conference foe Caldwell.
In game one, Caldwell came out strong putting up three runs in the first inning of play.
In the third inning, the Lady Eagles responded with five runs to take the lead. Post was sparked by freshman
Christina Udris, who led the inning off with a base hit. Udris would later score followed by four other Eagles including
Cassidie Ern,
Brandi Davis, and
Jackie Bonamassa.
Kim Bentson, Sam Pagano, Bonamassa were all credited with RBIs in the inning while, catcher
Amy Mantha kept the run streak going with a two out double to right center scoring Bonamassa home.
Post University would later add to their lead with Liana May scoring from second off a
Christina Marino single to left field.
Post University took game one of the series by a score of 6-3. Sophomore
Johanna Rice picked up her sixth win on the season through six innings of work.
In game two, the Lady Eagles fell behind early giving up two runs in the first inning off two hits. For the Caldwell Lady Cougars Dia Cascone and Cassandra Cefolo came around to score the game's first runs.
The Cougars would add one more in the top of the second as Post snuck out of a bases loaded jam only giving up one run on the inning.
In the bottom of the second, the Eagles narrowed their deficit by one run as
Cassidie Ern reached on an error by Caldwell's short stop and later scored on a base hit by
Samantha Pagano.
After giving up a five run lead, Post rallied back to bring it within 3 runs. The Lady Eagles were led by a one out base hit by designated player
Stephanie DeMartino in the bottom of the sixth. Later in the inning
Christina Udris scored on single by
Kim Bentson and
Cassidie Ern came home from second off a Liana May single to right center.
Despite their sixth inning rally, the Lady Eagles would come up short dropping the second game 6-3.
The Eagles will return to competition on Friday at Philadelphia.
