WATERBURY, Conn (April 16, 2011) Post University's baseball team swept Philadelphia University Saturday at Municipal Stadium. The Eagles took game one 1-0 and game two 4-2. Post improves to 18-10 overall and 8-5 in conference.
In game one the Eagles took a one run lead in the bottom of the second. DH Ralph Dieguez singled to center field and later stole second moving into scoring position. Russ Sirko moved Dieguez to third as he grounded out to first base. With Alex Jahn at the plate the Eagles executed a suicide bunt to perfection scoring Ralph Dieguez on the play.
Post was carried defensively by short stop James Wong who came up with two big plays at opportune times. The first came in the second as Wong ranged to his left making the throw in time. In the fourth Wong came up big again making a diving catch to keep Philadelphia off the base path.
Cutler Ruby pitched his first complete game shutout for Post striking out ten and giving up only four hits. Ruby improves his record to 3-0 on the season.
In game two, Eagle's Kevin Fearon scored the first run of the game to put the Eagles up one. Fearon was hit by a pitch and later moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Felix Osoria. James Wong ripped a triple down the left field line sending Fearon home.
Post added to their lead in the seventh getting a jump start of back to back singles from Aaron Lerma and Travis Locascio. Dieguez reached on an error by the pitcher which scored Lerma from third and left Locascio and Dieguez in scoring position. Russ Sirko hit a base clearing single scoring both Locascio and Dieguez and putting the Eagles up 4-0.
Philadelphia narrowed the gap to two runs in the top of the eighth inning. Evan Anderson entered to relieve John Jeanes and close out the inning for the Eagles.
The Eagles took a 4-2 victory while John Jeanes picked up his third win on the season. Left handed reliever Evan Anderson gets the save giving him three on the year.
Post will be back in action again tomorrow taking on Bloomfield College. The game is slated for a 1 pm start at Municipal Stadium.
