WATERBURY, Conn (April 15, 2011) Post University's softball team improved to 9-5 in conference Friday afternoon with two wins over Holy Family, 6-3 and 1-0. Stephanie DeMartino went 3-7 with 1 RBI and one double, including a game winner in game two.

Cassidie Ern led the Eagles going 4-6 on the day with a triple and two runs scored. Brandi Davis was 4-8 with a double and an RBI, including hitting 4-4 in game one. Pitchers Johanna Rice and Ashley Cummings picked up the wins on the day.

In game one, it was the Eagles taking a 6-3 victory. Holy Family scored two runs in the top of the first, but the Eagles would respond in the bottom of the second.

Down 2-0, Casey Scalfani singled followed by a Kim Bentson walk. Ern singled setting up a fielder's choice RBI from Sam Pagano making it 2-1. Davis then picked up an RBI with a single to tie the game at two as Bentson scored. Next up it was Jackie Bonamassa who hit a single to score Ern putting the Eagles up 3-2.

After Holy Family failed to make the scoreboard move in the top of the third, the Eagles got the bats swinging in the bottom of the inning.

DeMartino led off the inning with a single that resulted in her scoring moments later. She advanced to third on the throw before scoring when Holy Family pitcher Rachael Alligood committed an error.

With two away, Ern singled and eventually scored on a Pagano double. Pagano advanced on the throw and scored making it 6-2 Eagles en route to a 6-3 win. Cummings pitched the entire way giving up only four hits on eight strikeouts.

In game two, Johanna Rice kept the Tigers scoreless through nine innings, but it was Stephanie DeMartino who was the hero.

Bonamassa was placed on second for the tie-breaker in the bottom of the ninth and advanced to second when Christina Udris singled. Enter DeMartino who hit one deep to the outfield scoring the game winning run to win game two for the Eagles 1-0.
