CLEARMONT, FL (March 9, 2011) Post University's softball team fell in close games to Millersville and Southern New Hampshire Wednesday afternoon. Millersville won 4-1 and Southern NH took a 2-1 victory.
In game one against Millersville,
Brandi Davis and
Amy Mantha led the offense hitting 1-3 as Davis scored one run. The run came in the seventh inning after she bunted to get on, and then used her speed to get to both second and third on passed balls.
Christina Udris came to the plate and grounded out to second, but picked up an RBI scoring Davis.
Millersville had built a 4-0 lead prior to Davis's run by scoring two in the second inning and two in the third. Pitcher Alicia Hughes picked up the win as Millersville claimed a 4-1 victory.
Eagle
Johanna Rice pitched six innings in the game with four strikeouts.
In game two it was a close 2-1 loss to Southern New Hampshire.
Ashley Cummings pitched the entire game for the Eagles with three strikeouts and giving up only three hits.
The first three innings remained scoreless as Post University was the first to get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth.
Amy Mantha hit a lead-off double to leftfield forcing SNH into a pitching change as Dolores Mattice came in for Katie Raymond.
Udris hit a sacrifice bunt advancing Mantha who scored on a
Kim Bentson sacrifice fly to right field making it 1-0.
Casey Sclafani and
Lianna May each picked up hits before the third out of the inning.
SNH would rally in the top of the fifth to take the lead however by scoring two runs. Morgan Farmer hit an RBI triple to tie the game. She would score moments later when Cara Daly came to the plate hitting an RBI double giving SNH a 2-1 lead.
The Eagles nearly scored again in the bottom of the sixth as with Udris on third thanks to a walk and a Bentson single. Sclafani and May both hit frozen ropes to short that were caught by Tesia Stanasek to end the inning.
Again in the bottom of the seventh, the Eagles put runners in scoring position. This time it was speedster Sam Pagano, but the defense of SNH stood tall to the task as two more outs were collected on cleanly fielded balls. Southern New Hampshire held on for a 2-1 win.
Post University will take on West Chester and Millersville for a second time on Thursday.
