Clermont, FL –It was the best of times. It was the worst of times. The Post University softball team went through it all in Day 3 of competition in Florida, responding from a frustrating 5-3 loss against Lock Haven University with a breakthrough 9-8 victory over the College of Saint Rose.

The Eagles (1-5) shook off a tough opening game defeat by putting up a season-high 9 runs on 11 hits against a seemingly overmatched Saint Rose pitching staff.

Cassidie Ern went 4-for-4 in game 2, scoring three runs to lead the Eagles' offense.

Post University broke the game open in the fifth inning, scoring five runs on five hits and taking advantage of four Saint Rose errors in the frame.

Freshman Jackie Bonamassa led off the inning with a single to center field and Ern continued the momentum with another single up the middle.

Second baseman Brandi Davis followed by lacing a line-drive that was too much for right fielder Stephanie Luce to hang on to. Luce was charged with an error on the play.

That's when head coach Tracey Garofalo got aggressive, sending both Bonamassa and Ern home, and when they slid in safely, the Eagles had built themselves a 4-2 lead.

Samantha Pagano added an RBI single later in the inning to give Post University a 5-2 advantage.

The Eagles struck again in the sixth inning, when catcher Amy Mantha drilled an RBI double to left field. She later scored on an RBI groundout from Stephanie DiMartino.

Ashley Cummings (1-2) got the win for the Eagles, giving up five runs over four innings of work.

The Eagles dropped the first game of the day against Lock Haven despite a solid outing from sophomore
pitcher Johanna Rice, who gave up just three earned runs over six innings of work.

Post University's defense let Rice down however, committing two key errors that led to Lock Haven runs, giving LHU a 5-2 lead going into the bottom of the seventh.

Freshman outfielder Jackie Bonamassa gave Post University hope for a late rally, leading off the seventh inning with a double to left field.

Second baseman Brandi Davis then drove in Bonamassa with a sacrifice fly to center field, bringing the Eagles to within 5-3.

Unfortunately for the Eagles, they never drew closer as Lock Haven took the win in game two.

Samantha Pagano led the Eagles offense with 2 hits, including a 2-RBI single to give the Eagles an early 2-1 lead.

Brittany Pataky led the Lock Haven offensive output, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
