Brendan Barry knocked a one-out single to right field to drive in
Alex Jahn with the winning run in the bottom of the 13th as the Eagles took Game 1 by a score of 2-1 in extra innings. Post would follow that up with another complete game shut out for the second time this season by Steve Corbett, winning 3-0.
"We still haven't put together a complete game yet but we got two quality wins against a very good program,” said
AJ McNamara, Eagles Head Coach. “We left a small army on the bases today, so as we move forward, hopefully we can do a better job of driving in some runs. Our pitching and our defense has been outstanding thus far.”
In Game one, the Eagles would strike first in the bottom of the 1st when Jahn singled to center field, stole second and was driven home by an RBI single from junior 1st Baseman Travis Locascio.
UPJ would respond with a run in the top of the 3rd and the score would remain tied until the 13th. Jahn would get things started getting hit by a pitch. He would then steal second and move to 3rd on a throwing error by the catcher, setting the stage for Barry's heroics.
Jahn would finish the game 2-4 with 2 stole bases and 2 runs scored while Barry finished 2-4 with an RBI.
Dan Steers would get the no decision going 7 innings giving up one earned run with six strikeouts while walking only two. He gave up five hits. Junior Hayden Allred came on in the 8th and keep UPJ off the scoreboard. Sophomore Evan Anderson came on in the 9th to get the win. Anderson went 3.1 innings allowing no hits while striking out three.
Game two saw Steve Corbett throw his second consecutive complete shutout as the junior went 7 innings, allowing just five singles. Corbett struck out four while walking only one and improving to 2-0 on the year.
Offensively, junior Aaron Lerma would go 2-3 with a run scored as senior Ralph Dieguez went 2-4 with two runs scored. Sophomore shortstop Todd Blair went 1-4 with a double and an RBI.
The Eagles will be back in competition against conference foe USciences on Tuesday. The game will be marked as a non-conference match-up.
