WATERBURY, Conn. (March 22, 2011)---
Ashley Cummings threw a complete-game, one-hitter, and Post University defeated UMass-Lowell, 3-1, in game one of a doubleheader Tuesday at LaMoy Field.
Cummings was brilliant all game,striking out five and walking just one in a masterful performance. She faced just 25 batters all game, four over the minimum.
Cummings was aided by a pair of RBI singles from
Kim Bentson and
Stephanie DeMartino, and the Eagles (6-11) scored in each of the first three innings to take control of the game.
Christina Udris also came up with two hits and an RBI groundout in the third.
The Eagles got another solid pitching performance in game 2, but couldn't muster enough offense in a 4-2 defeat.
Johanna Rice pitched 7.0 full innings and gave up just two earned runs, striking out three.
The Eagles struck first on a
Casey Sclafani double that drove in two first-inning runs, but were stymied the rest of the way by an excellent pitching performance from Elyssa Boris.
Boris, who started in game one for UMass-Lowell, came on in relief in game two and threw four shutout innings, allowing just two hits.
The Eagles return to action tomorrow at Bentley University, before returning home for a twin bill against American International College on Thursday.
