Eagles softball dominates Bridgeport 12-1, in finale of doubleheader split

WATERBURY, Conn. (March 20, 2011)---Eight different Post University hitters drove in at least one run, and the Eagles destroyed the University of Bridgeport, 12-1, in the second game of a doubleheader on Sunday.

Kim Bentson went 3-for-3 with 2 RBI, including a run-scoring double that punctuated a four-run fifth inning for the Eagles.

Cassidie Ern and Jackie Bonamassa each went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Casey Sclafani added a fifth-inning RBI single for Post University (5-10).

The Eagles capitalized on four Purple Knights errors, and pitcher Ashley Cummings shut Bridgeport down, allowing just one earned run in 7.0 full innings to earn the victory.

Post University pounded out 10 hits in the game.

The University of Bridgeport (5-7) took game one in dramatic fashion, winning 7-6 on a walk-off, two-run double by catcher Tori Tenzyk.

The Eagles had entered the bottom of the seventh with a 6-5 lead, after Christina Udris came up with a 2-RBI single in the top of the sixth inning.

Stephanie DeMartino was also teriffic at the plate, going 2-for-4 with 2 RBI.

The Eagles return to action on Tuesday when they take on UMass-Lowell at LaMoy Field.
