WATERBURY, Conn. (March 19, 2011)---
Christina Udris hit a towering, two-run home run, and the Post University softball team cruised to an 8-3 victory in game two of a Saturday afternoon doubleheadder with the College of Saint Rose.
The Eagles (4-9) lost the first game, 5-3.
Udris' homer scored
Cassidie Ern and gave Post University a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third in game two.
The Eagles never looked back, scoring two more runs in the fifth on a
Kim Bentson triple, and finished off the
Golden Knights (4-7) with four ninth-inning runs, punctuated by an RBI double from catcher
Stephanie DeMartino.
DeMartino also came up big in game one, going 2-for-4 with 2 RBI.
Johanna Rice was brilliant on the mound, allowing just 2 earned runs and striking out four in a full 7.0 innings of work.
Rice improved her record to 2-4 with the win, making some big pitches in the top of the seventh to thwart a Golden Knights rally and preserve the victory for Post University.
Saint Rose won game one behind a solid pitching performance by Nicole Traylor, who gave up just one run in four innings of relief.
The Eagles will make up their previously scheduled doubleheadder with Brigeport University at home on Sunday.
