CHESTER, NY (March 15, 2011) Post University's softball team took an 8-2 victory over Mercy Tuesday afternoon as sophomore pitcher
Johanna Rice went seven innings for her first win of the season. The Eagles fell in game two 6-1.
Cassidie Ern and
Brandi Davis were both 2-4 in the game. Four Eagles picked up RBIs in the contest including two from both
Christina Marino and Christina Urdis.
The game was scoreless for the first three innings as Mercy scored one run in the bottom of the fourth. That is went the Eagles took matters into their own hands. It was a four run fifth inning for Post University helped along by a 2 RBI double from Urdis to put the Eagles on top.
The Eagles were heads up on the base paths as Urdis would score on an error by Curry, the Mercy third baseman, and
Stephanie DeMartino would come home on a passed ball putting Post University up 4-1.
The sixth inning went silent, but the flood gates opened again in the seventh.
Kim Bentson singled and
Casey Sclafani doubled putting both in scoring position.
Lianna May came up and ripped an RBI single to bring in Bentson. Sam Pagano did the same moments later as Scalfani scored for a 6-1 lead.
Later in the inning, it was Marino getting a 2 RBI single scoring Pagano and Davis hit a single of her own to get on. The Eagles would take an 8-2 victory.
Game two saw Mercy jump to a quick 4-0 lead by the third inning. Mercy was able to get the bats going, but the Eagle defense did not commit a single error in the field.
In the top of the seventh, Bentson hit a lead-off double to sparking the Post University dugout. With two outs, May came up and hit an RBI single to bringing in Bentson. Pagano would also get a hit before the inning ended.
Bentson was 1-2 in the game, while both May and Pagano were 1-3. Mercy took game two 6-1.
Post University will return to competition on Thursday at home against American International College and will host Saint Rose on Saturday.
