CLERMONT, Fla. (March 10, 2011)---Casey Sclafani laced a three-run, first inning triple, and the Post University softball team concluded its trip to Florida with a 5-4 defeat of West Chester University of Pennsylvania on Thursday.

The Eagles wasted no time jumping all over West Chester, striking for four runs in the first inning.

Jackie Bonamassa, Christina Udris, Stephanie DiMartino, and Kim Bentson all came up with consecutive one out singles, giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead and leaving the bases loaded for Sclafani.

Not a very wise idea.

Casey drilled a triple into right field, clearing the bases and giving the Eagles a 4-0 lead.

Eagles pitchers Ashley Cummings and Johanna Rice took it from there, holding West Chester to just one big inning- a three-run fourth- and shutting them down the rest of the way.

Cummings did her best Mariano Rivera impression in the fourth, holding the lead by getting out of a bases-loaded, one out jam by inducing two weak pop-ups to second base from middle-of-the-order West Chester hitters Jessica Shuck and Nicole Cruts.

Rice then finished the job, holding the Golden Rams (4-7) to just one run over three innings, and picking up her second save of the season.

The two combined to give up just three earned runs over seven innings of work, striking out five.

The Eagles (2-7) added a run in the seventh on a Stephanie DiMartino RBI single.

Post University returns to action March 15, heading north to Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., to take on Mercy College.
