MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (February 26, 2011)---The Eagles' Baseball team fell to a solid West Virginia Wesleyan College squad, currently ranked #11 in the Mid-Atlantic region, by a score of 6-1.
Senior Tom Sirois started on the hill and gutted through 6.1 innings of work giving up 6 earned runs on 10 hits, while striking out 7.
The Bobcats would jump on the scoreboard early scoring two runs in the top of the first on a walk and two doubles.
The Eagles responded in the bottom of the 2nd on an RBI single by freshman Pedro Escarfullery.
The score would remain 2-1 until the 6th, when the Bobcats would tack on two more runs to increase their lead to 4-1.
They added two additional runs in the 7th for the final tally of 6-1.
The Eagles' hitters were handcuffed by three West Virginia Wesleyan pitchers, mustering just 5 hits (3 from senior Alex Jahn and 2 from Escarfullery).
"They were certainly deserving of their ranking,” said Eagles head coach A.J. McNamara.
“They played flawless baseball in the field and did all the little things correctly. Their pitchers were aggressive in the strike zone and kept us off-balance most of the game,” he said.
“I definitely don't think we played our best game but we definitely gutted it out and maybe with a few breaks here or there, we could have pulled it out. Unfortunately things didn't work out, but it was a good test for us."
