Eagles Softball Season Ends Against Georgian Court 17-9

LAKEWOOD, NJ (May 6, 2010) Post University lost its second game of the 2010 CACC Tournament against Georgian Court 17-9. The high scoring game saw 17 runs scored in the first two innings.

The Eagles got on the scoreboard first by scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. Cassidie Ern started things off with a single to right field and advanced to third with a double from Amy Mantha. When Canning walked, the bases were loaded for Tierney Marceau who singled to centerfield scoring one run. Emily Archer then hit a two RBI single giving the Eagles a 3-0 edge.

Georgian Court quickly responded by scoring six runs in the bottom of the inning forcing Post University to make a pitching change, taking Lindsey Heiser out of the game for Stephanie Carrillo.

In the top of the second, the Eagles would light up the scoreboard once again, this time scoring four runs. Ern walked and with two out, Mantha reached on an error. Both Sam Canning and Marceau hit an RBI singles to left field scoring Ern and Mantha respectively. Kim Bentson also reached on an error brining in Canning. Before the inning ended, Archer picked up her third RBI with a single to left field making it 7-6 Post University.

However, in the bottom of the inning the Lions would score four more runs to take command for good with a 10-7 lead. Trailing 13-7, the Eagles scored two more runs in the top of the fifth when Lianna May and pitcher Ashley Cummings came across the plate after Canning reached on an error.

The Lions would score two runs in both the bottom of the fifth and sixth to secure a 17-9 win ending the Eagle's season.
