Eagles Baseball Defeats Top Ranked Wilmington 4-2

NEW CASTLE, DE (May 6, 2010) Post University's baseball team defeated the top ranked Wilmington Wildcats 4-2 in the second round of the CACC Baseball Playoffs Thursday afternoon.

The game was scoreless through the bottom of the fifth inning when Wilmington got on the scoreboard first. Matt Botting hit a single to right field and advanced to second on a bunt. After JT Gregory reached on a fielder's choice, it moved Botting to third setting up Jordan Oncay for the sacrifice RBI. Bryan Short then came up and singled to short scoring Jonathan Rodriguez for a 2-0 lead.

The Eagles went into the top of the 9th trailing by two runs. Ralph Dieguez led-off the inning with a walk and Jared Maddox came in to pinch run. Maddox moved to second on a wild pitch and the advanced to third on an Alex Jahn single. Russ Sirko then walked to load the bases before Harold Mejia came in to pinch run. Jose Reyes bunted scoring Maddox making it 1-0.

With George Springler on the mound to relieve starting pitcher Gregory, Todd Blair reached on a fielder's choice RBI scoring Jahn to tie the game with one out. Dan Luisi then walked moving Blair to second setting up Brendan Barry who hit a two RBI single to centerfield securing a 4-2 Eagle victory.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Dan Steers struck out two batters and allowed only one hit. Steers would have six strikeouts on the day through nine innings.

Post University will play the winner of the Felician vs. Dominican game on Friday at 3pm.
