WORCESTER, MA (April 8, 2010) Post University's Softball team lost a non-conference double header Thursday afternoon on the road to Assumption. Assumption won the first game 3-2 and the second 5-4. The Eagles are now 9-19 overall and 7-9 in conference play.
In game one, Post University scored two runs in the top of the first inning. Cassidie Ern singled to lead-off and scored on an Amy Mantha RBI double. Mantha stole third and scored on a Marceau sacrifice RBI. The score would remain 2-0 until the bottom of the third.
Assumption's Meghan Di Vitto singled and eventually scored when Ashley Bilodeau hit a single. Another single from Erin Murphy would set her up to score when Melissa Jalbert reached on a fielder's choice. Amy Gordon scored the game winning run after reaching base on an error making the final score 3-2.
In the second game, it was much of the same with Post University scoring all four runs in the top of the first inning. Sam Pagano reached on an error and Mantha walked. Sam Canning singled to left field and earned the RBI bringing in Pagano. Marceau hit an RBI, getting on with a fielder's choice and moved to second on a wild pitch. Emily Archer hit an RBI single as did Kim Bentson making it 4-0.
The Greyhounds would not tie the game until the 5th inning. The winning run was scored in the bottom of the 6th when Di Vitto hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield scoring Bernadette Fuentes for a 5-4 win.
The Eagles will be back in action again this weekend for home games against Goldey Beacom and Bridgeport.
