Eagles Baseball Splits Pair with Caldwell

PARSIPPANY, NJ (April 7, 2010) Post University's baseball team split a double header on Wednesday afternoon against CACC foe Caldwell. The Eagles took game one 2-1, but lost the second game 3-0. Post University now has a 13-13 record overall, and is 5-5 in the CACC.

Tim McCarthy pitched the entire first game to earn the win and improve to 2-2 on the season. 

The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the 3rd inning when Alex Jahn reached on an error by shortstop Andrew Robinson, followed by a Todd Blair walk. Dan Luisi reached on a fielder's choice moving Jahn to third as Blair was thrown out at second. Jahn would score when pitcher Robert Casal balked making it 1-0 Eagles.

With a one run advantage heading into the bottom of the 8th, Travis Locascio singled and advanced to second on a passed ball. When Doug Wells hit an RBI single, Post University scored the winning run making it 2-0. Caldwell scored one in the top of the 9th for a 2-1 final.

In game two, the Eagles would be shutout of a 3-0 score. Dan Steers went 8.2 innings on the mound with five strikeouts.

Caldwell broke the ice in the 5th in a scoreless game when Tim Todaro hit a lead-off single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Todaro scored on a Juan Pinero RBI single giving the Cougars a 1-0 lead.

In the top of the 9th, playing the game as the visiting team, Caldwell's Robertson hit a two RBI single scoring both Todaro and Juan Mejia to win the game 3-0.

The Eagles best opportunity to score throughout game two came in the first inning when Locascio tripled with two outs, but was stranded on base when Wells struck out swinging. Post University had three hits in game two.

Post University will play again Thursday at Nyack.
