Wilmington Defeats Eagles Baseball in 15 Innings 8-7; 10-8 in Game 2

WILMINGTON, DE (April 3, 2010) Post University and Wilmington battled for 15 innings in game one of a double header Saturday that was won by the Wildcats 8-7. The Eagles lost game two 10-8 making their record 12-12, 4-4 CACC.

In game one, the contest went scoreless through 6 innings. In the top of the 7th, the Eagles scored 6 runs. With one out, Doug Wells walked and Jared Maddox came into the game as a pinch runner. Ralph Dieguez singled, setting up Brendan Barry who hit an RBI single scoring Maddox. 

With Harold Mejia got on base with a walk, Russell Sirko hit a 2 RBI single bringing in both Mejia and Dieguez prompting a pitching change for the Wildcats. When Todd Blair walked, the bases were loaded bring up Jose Reyes who also walked forcing another pitching change. 

Two more walks would put Dan Luisi and Travis Locascio on base while scoring Sirko and Blair making it 6-0 Post University.

In the 8th inning, Wilmington rebounded to score five runs on four hits and one error closing the score down to 6-5. In the bottom of the 9th, Payne doubled and scored on an Oncay sacrifice fly tying the game while forcing extra innings. 

After four scoreless innings, the Eagles finally broke the ice in the top of the 15th. Luisi singled to lead-off the inning and Locascio grounded out to put one away. Jarrett then singled advancing Luisi who scored on an Alex Jahn sacrifice, putting Post University on top 7-6.

Wilmington's Devonshire walked and was replaced by Spingler. The next batter Woolford was hit and both advanced on a wild pitch. When Oncay walked the bases were loaded setting up Short who singled scoring two runs to win the game 8-7.

In the second game, Post University scored first once again, but this time in the top of the first when Locascio homered scoring two runs. 

By the top of the 6th inning Wilmington would have scored nine runs to make it 9-2. With one out Luisi walked and advanced to third on a Locascio single. Wells would hit an RBI single scoring Luisi, followed by a 2 RBI triple from Dieguez. Next up it was Mejia who singled scoring Dieguez.

For the Eagles the hits kept coming when Barry singled and Blair reached on an error, scoring Barry and Mejia with two outs showing on the scoreboard. Blair stole second and Reyes walked, bringing up Luisi for the second time who hit a single. However, the rally would end when Locascio grounded out to first base with the Eagles still trailing 9-8.

Wilmington scored one more in the 7th making the final 10-8 after a long day of competition. 

Post University will play Caldwell College at home on Wednesday afternoon.
