Mantha Hits Walk-Off Homerun to Lead the Eagles in Two Wins over USP

WATERBURY, Conn (April 24, 2010) Post University's softball team defeated USP on Saturday afternoon in a conference double header. The Eagles won the first game 3-1, while the score in game two 4-2. Post University is now 12-12 in the CACC.
In game one, USP scored first in the top of the second with a homerun from Mia Crotti. Then it was a pair of homeruns from Kim Bentson and Cassidie Ern giving the Eagles two runs after three innings.
The Eagles would score one more before the game ended when Samantha Pagano reached on an error and advanced to second after Sam Canning was hit by a pitch. Marceau had a RBI single settling a 3-1 final score.
In the second game, Stephanie Carrillo took the mound as the game remained scoreless through six innings. USP would break the ice in the sixth and seventh scoring one run in each inning.
The Eagles would have one more chance to win the game trailing 2-0 after Emily Archer led-off the bottom of the 7th with a single to left field. Christina Marino came in to pinch run for Archer then Carrillo then flied out to centerfield. Lianna May reached on a fielder's choice as Marino was thrown out at second putting two away.
Ern then hit a single to the shortstop putting two runners on with Pagano at the plate. Pagano singled to the second base and the ball shot into the outfield scoring May for the Eagles first run of the game. Amy Mantha was up next with runners on first and second. USP made a pitching change putting Erin Degnan into the game. Mantha then hit a three run walk-off homerun over the right field fence giving Post University a 4-2 victory.
Post University will be back in action again Sunday afternoon against Philadelphia beginning at 12pm.
