Baseball Downs USP in Game One 4-1

WATERBURY, Conn (April 24, 2010) Post University's baseball team defeated USP in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon in Waterbury.

Tim McCarthy was on the mound keeping the game scoreless through four innings. In the top of the fifth, USP's Dustin Gill walked to lead-off the inning and scored on a Kyle Davis RBI double. 

In the bottom of the fifth, the Eagles were able to load the bases with Jarrod Maddox pinch running for Doug Wells, Jose Reyes, and Dan Luisi, but were not able to score. 

In the bottom of the sixth with two outs Ralph Dieguez reached on an error and stole second. Russ Sirko walked and both advanced on a wild pitch. Alex Jahn came up and also reached on an error, but tied the game in the process scoring Dieguez. Reyes then singled to center field making it 2-1 Eagles. Before the inning ended, Todd Blair got on base after the first baseman could not handle the throw scoring Jahn for a 3-1 lead.

Ralph Dieguez hit a RBI single with two out in the seventh scoring Barry who was hit by a pitch giving Post University a 4-1 win.

Post University will host Merrimack in a non-conference game at 11:30am Sunday at Municipal Stadium.
