WATERBURY, Conn. (March 28, 2010) –
Dan Luisi became the all time career hits leader for Post University with two hits during today's double header against Mercy College breaking Jimmy Coleman's record. After today's double header, Luisi now has 156 hits in his career.
"I'm awfully proud of Dan's accomplishment. For the amount of work that young man puts into things, there is no more better deserving player than him," said AJ McNamara, Eagles Head Coach. "He's such a humble individual because he refuses to put his personal goals before the goals of the team but I'm so happy and proud of him as a baseball player, a student and as a person."
Trailing 3-0 in Game 2, Reyes led off the inning with a single followed by Luisi's record breaking single to right field. Travis Locascio followed with an RBI single to right field to cut the lead to 3-1. With runners on 2nd and 3rd, freshman Doug Wells deposited a double over the left fielders head to tie the game at 3. After pinch runner Alex Jahn was thrown out trying to advance to third on a groundball by Brendan Barry, junior Sean Jarrett followed with a walk to bring up Jared Maddox who doubled down the line giving the Eagles the 5-3 lead heading into the 7th.
Mercy would tie the game on an error setting up the game winning heroics in the bottom of the inning. With two outs, Locascio walked, and stole second. Ralph Dieguez was intentionally walked bringing up sophomore Russ Sirko who promptly singled to score the game winning run and complete the sweep for the Eagles.
Game 1 was equally as dramatic and the Eagles held a 3-0 lead until Mercy tied it with 3 runs in the 5th. With two outs in the bottom of the 7th, the Eagles loaded the bases for junior Sean Jarrett who was hit with a 2-2 fastball to force in the winning run.
Richie Pierro came in relief in both games to garner both wins to improve to 4-0 on the young season. The Eagles up their record to 11-9 while Mercy falls to 5-10.
The Eagles will be back in action Tuesday with an important conference DH at CACC newcomer Concordia College. First pitch is 1pm.
