Eagles Softball Sweeps Queens College in Sunday Double Header

QUEENS, NY (March 21, 2010) Post University's softball team picked up two non-conference wins on Sunday afternoon at Queens College. The Eagles took game one 3-0, while game two was won by a 6-3 margin.
In game one, Tierney Marceau hit a homerun in the top of the 7th inning to break the tie on a scoreless game. Sam Canning scored on the blast over the left field fence giving the Eagles a 2-0 edge. Then Emily Archer then came to bat and hit a double. Christina Marino came into the game to pinch run for Archer and scored when Kim Bentson doubled giving Post University a 3-0 win.
Lindsey Heiser earned the win for the Eagles pitching the entire game with three strikeouts.
In game two, Queens scored quickly in the opening inning to go up 1-0. The score would remain that way until the top of the 4th when Canning hit a lead-off homerun tying the game at one a piece.
Post University would score again in the 5th inning. This time it was Lianna May who singled to get on base and advanced to second on an Amy Mantha sacrifice. Sam Pagano hit a single to left field scoring May giving the Eagles a 2-1 lead.
In the 6th, Post University opened the flood gates scoring four runs. With one out, Marceau singled to right center field and was replaced by Marino who came in to pinch run. After a pitching change, Archer and Bentson singled to load the bases.
Marino scored on the next play when Heiser reached on a fielder's choice after Queen's Koumou made a throwing error at the plate. With three runners on, Johanna Rice doubled scoring two more runs in Bentson and Archer. Heiser scored after Ern reached on a fielder's choice, when the catcher Miracco made an error. At this point the Eagles were in front 6-1.
Queens scored two more in the bottom of the inning, but that would settle the final score at 6-3 with Stephanie Carrillo earning the win with three strikeouts.
Post University will play at home on Tuesday against Mercy beginning at 3pm.
