Softball Goes 1-1 against Wilmington

NEW CASTLE, DE (March 20, 2010) Post University's Softball team picked up their first win of the 2010 season against Wilmington on Saturday afternoon. The win came in the second game of a double header with a 3-0 score. Game one went in the Wildcat's favor with a 6-1 victory.

In game one, the Eagles scored first in the top of the 4th inning when Tierney Marceau hit a lead-off single. Christina Marino came into the game to pinch run and scored when Emily Archer hit a ground ball to third. Third baseman Watson made a throwing error allowing Marino to score making it 1-0.

In the bottom of the inning, Wilmington fired back with Watson Gebhart, Cordrey, and Tomlinson all scoring making it 4-1. The Wildcats would score two more in the 5th inning to seal the win when Watson homered over the centerfield fence. Later in the inning, Gebhart hit a home run to left field making the final score 6-1.

In game two, Lindsey Heiser pitched a shutout leading the Eagles to a 3-0 win. Post University scored in the top of the first with two outs Amy Mantha doubled down the left field line. The next batter was Sam Canning who singled to the right side scoring Mantha.

The score remained 1-0 until the top of the 7th. Marceau hit a lead-off double and Lianna May came into the game to pinch run. May advanced to third after Archer reached on an error by Wilmington's Gebhart at first base. May scored when Heiser hit a fielder's choice making it 2-0. 

The last run came when Cassidie Ern singled to the right side scoring Heiser for a final of 3-0.
Post University will be on the road Sunday afternoon against Queens College.
