Eagles Baseball Splits a Pair against Nyack

WATERBURY, Conn (March 20, 2010) Post University's Baseball team split a pair of games against Nyack College Saturday afternoon at Municipal Stadium. The Eagles lost game one 5-4, before winning the second game 9-5. The Eagles now stand at 7-9 on the season and 1-1 in the CACC.
In game one, the Eagles fell 5-4. Nyack scored the first run of the game in the top of the 1st when Pierre Crespo singled and scored off a RBI from PJ Rodriguez. In the bottom of the inning, Dan Luisi led-off for the Eagles with a single to centerfield and scored when Tyler Wilschetz grounded up the middle. Travis Locascio walked and scored off a Ralph Dieguez sacrifice fly to right field making it 2-1 Eagles.
Nyack retook the lead in the 2nd scoring two runs when Rodrigues singled to centerfield. The Warriors scored again in the 3rd inning to regain a 4-2 advantage.
Post University would not score again until the 6th inning when Jose Reyes doubled brining in Brendan Barry. In the top of the 7th, with the score 4-3 Nyack responded with a hit from Carlos Hidalgo who reached on a throwing error by Luisi preventing the 3rd out, while allowing Michael Frank to score the eventual game winner.
In the bottom of the 8th with two outs, Sean Jarrett came in to pinch hit for Post University's Todd Blair. Jarrett hit a fly ball to centerfield that hit the glove of Jonathan Mott before bouncing to the ground. Jared Maddox replaced Jarrett at first and scored when Reyes hit a deep triple to centerfield. Making the final score 5-4 in favor of Nyack in game one.
In game two, Reyes hit a lead-off single to centerfield and scored when Nyack pitcher Eric Lloyd balked making it 1-0 in the bottom of the first. The score would remain 1-0 until the bottom of the third when Dieguez doubled to right field scoring both Wilschetz and Locascio.
Nyack scored their first run of the game in the 4th inning after Crespo reached on an error by Reyes, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a Luis Caceras single.
With a 3-1 advantage, the Eagles would score three more in the 6th. Barry led-off the inning with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch. Russ Sirko walked, followed by an RBI single from Reyes scoring Barry. Luisi picked up an RBI single when Sirko scored, and Reyes would score off the bat of Wilschetz who reached on a fielder's choice making it 6-1.
Nyack's Caceras scored one run in the top of the 7th, but the Eagles would not let up. This time it was a double from Dieguez and a single from Harold Mejia putting two runners on. They both advanced on a wild pitch and when Barry walked, the bases were loaded. Dieguez then scored on a balk. Sirko then hit a sacrifice fly to left field scoring Mejia. A few batters later Luisi singled to the shortstop Rodriguez, scoring Barry making it 9-2 Eagles.
In the top of the 8th, Nyack's Mott, Crespo, and Frank all scored, but the rally would fall short as the Eagles took game two 9-5.
Post University will play next at Bloomfield on Wednesday afternoon.
