Eagles Fall Short Against 5th Ranked Winona

CLERMONT, Fla (March 10, 2010) Post University's Softball team fell to 5th ranked Winona on Wednesday 9-5 in Clermont, Florida. It leaves Post with a 0-5 record while Winona adds another win extending their 9 game winning streak.
In the first inning, Amy Mantha singled. Then Tierney Marceau and Samantha Canning were hit by a pitch advancing Mantha to third. Emily Archer came to bat and walked, allowing everyone to advance and Mantha to score. That was the only run the Eagles would score in the first inning though and Winona would score 4 runs in the bottom of the first.
Things got quiet for the second and third inning, while neither team scored. In the fourth inning, the Eagles made a comeback scpring four runs. It was hits to left and right field that helped the Eagles. Alexis Osbourne singled to right field and advanced to second when Cassidie Ern singled. Johanna Rice singled to right moving Osbourne to third. Then Mantha switch hit and doubled to center field, allowing Rice, Ern and Osbourne to score. Marceau would follow that with a single up the middle giving Mantha the opportunity to score before the ending of the inning.
In the fifth inning, it seemed that anything hit up the middle helped Winona score. Samantha Hildebrandt singled to center field and advanced to second. Then Annie Stuedemann grounded out, advancing Hildebrandt. Callie Givens came up to bat picking up an RBI when Hildebrandt scored. Katie Betry homered to left field allowing two more runs, giving Winona a 7-5 lead over the Eagles.
In the 6th inning, everything continued to favor Winona ending the inning with 2 more runs. This inning would give Winona a 9-5 the win over the Eagles.
The Eagles (0-5) will be back in action playing Southern Connecticut State University on Tuesday at 3:00 pm.
