PHILADELPHIA, PA (February 13, 2010) Post University Men's Basketball team defeated Holy Family 81-75 on Saturday afternoon. The win with important post-season implications improves the Eagles conference record to 5-7. Holy Family falls to 1-12.

Spencer Smith scored a game-high 23 points and six rebounds for the Eagles. Khiry Hawkins netted 22 points to lead the Tigers. Holy Family Sophomore Justin Swidowski scored 16 points with 16 rebounds becoming the 19th player in school history to score 1,000 points.

Holy Family opened the game with a 4-0 run.  A three pointer from Garvin McAlister would tie the game at 8 with over 15 minutes to play in the first. The Eagles would score two more quick buckets when Jon Lucky stole the ball and dunked. On the next play, Trevon Hamlet came up with the steal feeding Nyheem Sanders

With 7:46 to play in the first the Tigers cut the Eagle lead down to one, 24-23. From that point on, the Eagles opened the flood gates from beyond the arc with McAlister, Sanders, and Smith all connecting from downtown to give Post University a 48-36 halftime edge. The Eagles shot 60 percent from long range in the opening stanza.

For the early stages of the second half, the Eagle lead hovered around 10 points. However, by the 12:33 mark, Holy Family had tied the game at 56 following a 7-0 run. Post University head coach Mike Donnelly called time out to rally the troops for the final minutes of the game.

Out of the timeout, Hamlet hit consecutive answered jump shots followed by a three from Sanders. With 2:15 to play in the game it was tied at 73. Smith hit a shot in the paint putting the Eagles up by two. On the other end of the floor, Hawkins missed a layup allowing Smith to score once again.

Smith was fouled with 20 seconds to play and with a two point Eagle lead, hit both from the line. Smith would hit one final layup in the closing seconds for an 81-75 Post University win. Smith scored the final eight points of the game for the Eagles in the victory.

Post University's Men's Basketball team will be back in action again on Tuesday night at Bloomfield.
