Post University Men's Basketball Defeats Felician 89-84

WATERBURY, Conn (January 28, 2010) Post University's Men's Basketball team defeated Felician College Thursday night at the Drubner Center in Waterbury 89-84. The win improves the Eagles to 7-13, 3-7 CACC. Felician falls to 13-5, 6-3 CACC.

Post University had five players score in double digits led by Jon Lucky with 22. Spencer Smith and Larry Smith both netted 17. Felician's Devon Young scored 25 points adding 8 rebounds.

Jon Lucky hit a three to open the game for the Eagles and by the thirteen minute mark, Post University had a 20-12 point edge, causing Felician to call timeout. The crowd would get into the game as the sixth man for the Eagles. Both teams were evenly matched on the glass with pulling down 25 rebounds each in the first half, nine offensive and 16 defensive.

The Eagles were able to take a 39-28 point lead into halftime by outshooting the Golden Falcons 38.5 percent to 31.4 percent from the floor.

In the second half, the Eagles came out of the locker room with guns blazing. Nyheem Sanders drove to the basket making a layup and converting on the three point play. On the next possession, Sanders stole the ball and laid it in again giving Post a 44-28 lead.

Moments later, Felician's Antoine Obery connected from long range getting the Golden Falcons back into the game. Felician got into foul trouble, as with twelve minutes to play they had racked up six fouls to the Eagles one. Post University would give up several turnovers in the next four minutes allowing Felician to close within four 63-59.

Lucky would be sent to the bench in foul trouble and reentered the game with 4:30 to play and a 76-72 Eagle lead. He would then hit one of two free throws with 1:32 to play making it 83-77.

With one minute to play, Larry Smith would exit the game to a standing ovation with 17 points and his best game to this point in his career.

Nyheem Sanders and Spencer Smith would hit a couple of free throws down the stretch to give the Eagles a lead they would not relinquish in an 89-85 win.

Post University's Men's Basketball team will host Nyack next Tuesday night at the Drubner Center. The women's game begins at 6pm with the men to follow at 8pm.
