Eagles Softball Downed by Caldwell

WATERBURY, CT – The Post University Softball team was defeated by the Caldwell Cougars Wednesday in a CACC conference matchup. The score was identical in both games with Caldwell winning 5-1.
In the first game Post allowed 2 runs in the first inning with
Stephanie Carrillo pitching for the Eagles.
The lone run in the game was scored by Post in the second inning. It came when
Samantha Canning doubled to lead off. Casside Ern hit a sacrifice bunt to the pitcher that advanced Canning to third. Carrillo would get the RBI when she singled brining in Canning.
That would be as close as the Eagles would get with Caldwell scoring one run in the 2nd and 2 runs in the 4th. Post would drop the first game 5-1.
In game two, Caldwell scored first, brining in one run in the first inning. Then things quieted down with no runs scored until the top of the fifth, when the Cougars scored another 2.
In the bottom of the 5th, Ern doubled leading off the inning, but was thrown out at third base.
Nicole Gizzi* walked and
Amanda Prince Singled. Lindsay Heiser singled with an RBI as Gizzi scored.
Caldwell scored the final run of the game in the 6th inning and defeated Post in game two, 5-1.
Post Softball will play a doubleheader again tomorrow against Queens at home.
