Softball Downs Nyack in Doubleheader in a Downpour; With 3 Homers
Box Score Game One
NYACK, NY – The Post Eagles Softball team defeated the Nyack Warriors on the road Wednesday in a conference double header. Stephanie Carrillo earned the win in both contests on the cold April day.
Box Score Game 1.
In game one Post picked up a 9-6 victory. In the first inning, Casside Ern walked, Stephanie Carrillo singled, and Amy Mantha had a base hit. Mantha was then thrown out a second, however Ern scored the first run of the game. Emily Archer came up to bat and doubled scoring Carrillo.

Post went into the 3rd inning with a 2-1 advantage. Samantha Canning doubled, leading off the inning and then stole third. Following Canning's lead, Ern doubled scoring Canning. Mantha then came up and hit a homerun scoring 2 runs for Post and giving the Eagles a 5-1 lead.
Post sealed the deal by scoring three more runs in the 5th inning. Carrillo grounded out to the shortstop scoring Canning. Mantha reached after an error was made by the Nyack left fielder which brought Ern home. In a similar situation Kim Bentson got on base with an error allowing Mantha to score. In the end, Post picked up a 90-6 conference win.
Canning also register a homerun on the day coming in the 6th inning. It was her first of the season.
Box Score Game 2
In game two Post was back on the attack this time winning 12-4. In the first inning Lindsay Heiser doubled and eventually scored after a RBI single by Mantha.
After watching Mantha and Canning hit homeruns, Kim Bentson felt left out and joined the homerun club in game two. Bentson's homerun came in the second inning as the lead-off batter, and was her first as a college athlete.
In both the 3rd and 4th innings Post scored 4 runs each. Carrillo doubled to lead off the inning and was brought in by Archer who singled. Nicole Gizzi*, who played first base for the first time this season in the games against Nyack, grounded out to the pitcher brining in Mantha. To cap off the inning Amanda Prince doubled with 2 RBIs as both Ern and Archer scored.
In the fifth inning, Nyack was trailing 12-4 and wanted to call the game on the account of weather. Post was only 2 outs away from victory. After discussing the situation, the officiating staff decided to continue with the contest allowing the Eagles to win both games.
Post will play a doubleheader again this weekend against Chestnut Hill on the road Saturday, followed by two road games against Assumption on Sunday.
