Softball Splits Bridgeport on the Road; Archer Hits Grandslam
BRIDGEPORT, CT – The Post University Softball team split a doubleheader against Bridgeport Wednesday in a non-conference matchup. Post is now 19-13 overall.

Post won the first game of the afternoon by a score of 5-3. Post came out swinging in the 1st inning. With two outs, pitcher Stephanie Carrillo singled. Amy Mantha was up next and she hit her 3rd homerun of the year as Carrillo scored.
In the bottom of the 1st, Bridgeport evened the score and tied the game at two. The game remained tied until the 3rd inning when Bridgeport scored to make it 3-2.
In the 5th inning, the lead-off batter Amanda Prince doubled and scored on an error by the left fielder. One inning later, both Emily Archer and Nicole Gizzi* homered scoring the 4th an 5th runs for Post.
For both Archer and Gizzi, it was their first home run of the season.
In the second game it the game ended with Bridgeport on top 8-7. Cassidie Ern started the game pitching for Post, but quickly gave up 3 runs on 2 hits and was replaced by Carrillo.
The first inning was as wild one as both Post and Bridgeport scored 5 runs each. Emily Archer hit her 2nd homerun of the afternoon and this time it was a grand slam, giving Post a 4-0 lead. Kim Bentson made a heads up play later in the inning stealing home for the Eagles.
Bridgeport scored the winning run in the 4th inning, which at the time mafde the score 8-5. In the top of the 5th,Bentson singled scoring Mantha. Then Gizzi reached on an error, and Bentson scored the final run for Post. The Eagles fell in game two 8-7.
Post will be in action again on the road against Concordia on Thursday.
