WATERBURY,CT - The Post University Softball team fell to Holy Family 4-0 in both games of their home conference opener of the 2009 season. The Eagles now move to 9-3 this season.
Box Score Game One
In game one of the double header, Stephanie Carrillo pitched for Post giving up 4 runs in route to the Holy Family Victory. The game remained scoreless until the 4th inning when the bats came alive for the Tigers. Rebecca Costa reached on an error by Cassidie Ern in right field as Jody Searfoss scored. Angela DiBeneditto would also score with a hit from Cassandra Fitzgerald-Black.
The Eagles would get two hits throughout the contest in the 5th and 6th inning coming from Lindsay Heiser and Nicole Gizzi*. The Eagles would lose game one 4-0.
Box Score Game Two
In the second game it was much of the same as Holy Family was up for the challenge against the top ranked Eagles. With Heiser on the mound for seven innings, Post gave up seven hits while getting seven of their own, but being unable to capitalize on the scoreboard.
The winning run came in the first inning for the Tigers. The lead-off batter Carly Sippel singled and eventually scored with a pop fly to left field by DiBeneditto.
Post was able to get two hits in the 6th, from Kim Bentson and Gizzi who both singled. It would be the Eagles last real opportunity at scoring and would drop game 2 by the same 4-0 score.
The Eagles will play doubleheader again on Sunday at noon on Lamoy Field against Bentley.
