Justin Rivera Named CACC First Team All-Conference, Trio from Baseball Makes Second Team in End of the Year Awards

WATERBURY, Conn. -- Following the close of their season last week in the CACC Tournament's First Round, Post University Baseball saw four players make it on the All-Conference Team for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, headlined by senior third baseman Justin Rivera's First Team honor. Graduate right-hander Joe Christiana, senior utilityman Damaurys Rodriguez, and graduate catcher Isaiah Velazco were all named to the Second Team, as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon. The honors are the first for Rivera, Velazco, and Rodriguez, while being the fourth straight year in which Christiana has landed on a team.

Rivera's First Team honor makes it four consecutive years in which Post has landed a player on the list after the senior closed out his illustrious career as an Eagle with a .360 batting average across 48 games played this season. The third baseman was tied for the team lead with 63 hits to go along with his 14 doubles, three home runs, and team-high 55 runs batted in throughout the 26-25 campaign for Post. Rivera's on-base percentage came in at .415 with a .491 slugging percentage and .906 OPS during a season in which he recorded his 150th collegiate hit between his time as an Eagle and with Bloomfield College. Rivera finishes his collegiate career with 194 total hits, 108 of which came at Post, while earning his first-ever All-Conference honor as a player.

One of three players to make the Second Team, Rodriguez had a record-breaking season in his return to Post from Rollins College last year. The utilityman's .429 batting average this year was the highest for a single season in program history, passing Rosario Missiti's 2019 mark of .413, while his 21 stolen bases ranked second for a season behind only Chris Braxton's mark in 2004 of 40 stolen bases. Rodriguez also scored 50 times, the third-most for a season behind Jimmy Brennan's 54 runs scored in 2022, and was tied with Rivera for the team lead in hits with 63 across 147 at-bats. The senior also had nine doubles, two triples, four home runs, and 35 runs batted in, while walking 31 times, getting hit by 12 pitches, and only striking out 10 times. Rodriguez was a one-time CACC Player of the Week as well as a CACC Honor Roll recipient.

Another newcomer to the All-Conference Team was Velazco with an impressive .325 batting average in 49 games played that saw him tally 25 extra-base hits out of 50 total hits. Recording 17 doubles, Velazco was just two away from breaking the single-season record as Tyler Melko's 18 doubles in 2019 currently stand atop the record books, while also having five triples and three home runs to contribute 45 runs batted in for the Eagles. The catcher scored 40 times, while in the field accounting for 221 putouts, 19 assists, and nine errors, for a .964 fielding percentage. During the season, Velazco was also named CACC Player of the Week once, and that would also lead to him being named NCBWA East Region Player of the Week later on.

Christiana was no stranger to the All-Conference list as the starting pitcher in his graduate year made it four consecutive appearances with the honor after being named Second Team in 2022 and 2023, while being First Team last season in 2024. The Carmel, New York native made the CACC Honor Roll twice during the season, as well as one appearance as the CACC Pitcher of the Week, during a record-breaking season that saw him go 6-1 in 10 starts with a 4.86 earned run average. Finishing his career with 24 wins on the mound and 221 strikeouts, Christiana closes his career as the program's all-time wins and strikeouts leader, while this season punching out 48 batters and allowing just 21 extra-base hits across 53 2/3 innings of work.
