WATERBURY, Conn. -- Looking to bounce back in the third year of Head Coach
Courtney Burns leading the Post University Women's Basketball program, the Eagles were picked to finish seventh with 53 points in this season's Central Atlantic Colelgiate Conference Preseason Poll which embodies a new structure from previous years. Down to 11 teams with the departure of Bloomfield College, all 11 teams will be ranked 1-11 throughout the season with the top eight making the CACC Tournament in March.
Last year's CACC Championship Game participants in Holy Family University and Jefferson University were picked to finish first and second with 96 points and seven first-place votes followed by 91 points and three first-place votes, respectively. The lone other first-place vote went to Caldwell University in third place with 80 points, having an overwhelming edge on Dominican (N.Y.) in fourth place with 65 points followed by both Chestnut Hill College and Felician University tied for fifth just ahead of the Eagles with 60 points.Â
A balanced mix of returners and newcomers are part of the squad this year as junior forward
Alyssa Rossignol, the team's leading scorer last season, will look to build off her 12.9 points per game last season which led to her being named to the CACC All-Conference Third Team, as
Naj White, who was right behind her with 12.8 points per game graduated last spring. Junior guard
Alana Scott will look to make her return this season after missing all of last year with injury, while junior guard
Hannah Finnerty will miss the season with an injury of her own for Post.
Of last year's top five scorers, only Rossignol and sophomore guard
Jasmine Day-Cox are playing this season and towards the end of last season, Day-Cox started to find her rhythm on both sides of the ball. The sophomore had three double-digit rebound games in her final eight games as well as began to find success in the assists and blocks categories to help the team on their five-game winning streak to end the regular season before falling in the CACC Quaterfinals to Holy Family, 71-45.Â
Coach Burns team consists of three transfers in graduate guard
Megan Landsiedel from Division II Lenior-Rhyne University,
Claire Greene from Division III Rhode Island College, and sophomore forward
Tiara Tyson from Division I Central Connecticut State University. Among the local Connecticut talent entering the fold is 2,000-point scorer
Emily Arel from The Gilbert School, Arel is a Winsted, Connecticut native.Â
Post's season started with the Saint Anselm Challenge on November 14th when they take on Southern New Hampshire University at 4:00 PM and then Saint Anselm College the next day at 3:00 PM.
