Win Streak Pushes to Five for Women's Basketball Behind Alyssa Rossignol's 26 Points at Dominican (N.Y.)

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. -- Do not look now, but Post University Women's Basketball has continued to heat up with the CACC Tournament looming as a dominant 69-46 win over Dominican (N.Y.) on Wednesday night, behind 26 points from junior forward Alyssa Rossignol, which pushed their winning streak to five consecutive games. With their longest winning streak of the season, Post has done a complete 180 on their early-season struggles, which sat them at 1-7 through eight games, now moving above .500 for the first time this year at 13-12 with Saturday's road game against Georgian Court University being the final game of the regular season.

THE BASIC

Post University 69, Dominican (N.Y.) 46

Post University (13-12, 10-9 CACC)

Dominican (N.Y.) (6-21, 4-15 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Freshman forward Ketura Rutty, who closed with a 26-point, 12-rebound double-double on 11-for-18 shooting for the Lady Chargers, scored 12 of the 15 first-quarter points for Dominican (N.Y.) to start the affair as it was the home team jetting out to an early five-point lead, 14-9, with 3:11 left. Five straight points from sophomore guard Jasmine Day-Cox wiped out the five-point deficit for the Eagles, who got contributions from four different players, including Day-Cox's five points, to take an 18-15 lead heading into the second, at which point Post would never trail again in the contest.

After scoring just four points in the first on 1-for-3 shooting, Rossignol found her stroke in the second, leading the Eagles on a 6-0 run all by herself, which increased the Post lead to eight points, 24-16, midway through the frame. The junior went into halftime with 14 points, accounting for 10 of the 12 points that the Eagles had in the second quarter to ride into the break with a seven-point lead, 30-23.

As has been the case in numerous conference matchups this year, the third quarter has been the one where the Eagles pull away from their opponent and take control of the affair, which was the case again on Wednesday night. Putting together another 10-point quarter, this time on 4-for-5 shooting, Rossignol led a 23-point surge, highlighted by an 11-0 run that turned a nine-point advantage into a 20-point lead, 49-29, as she had four points, sophomore forward Tiara Tyson had four points, and junior guard Jaslin Walker finished it off with three points on her run-ending three.

Post's lead grew to as many as 26 points with 4:33 left, which was matched with 43 seconds left before freshman guard Sky Priester's three for the Lady Chargers finished the affair off with the Eagles coming out on top by 23 points, 69-46. Beyond the double-digit efforts from both Rossignol (26 points) for Post and Ketura (26 points), only Day-Cox for the Eagles finished in double-digits with 11 points on 3-for-6 shooting. As a team, the Eagles closed at 50%, going 25-for-50 overall, only taking nine threes and connecting on two of them, while Dominican (N.Y.) also took 50 shots from the floor, going 18-for-50 (36%), making one more three than Post at 3-for-10 (30%).

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Alyssa Rossignol finished with a team-high 26 points on 9-for-16 shooting with six rebounds and four assists for Post University, while going 8-for-8 from the free-throw line
  • Ketura Rutty had a double-double for Dominican (N.Y.) with 26 points on 11-for-18 shooting and 12 rebounds in 37 minutes
  • Post University has swept Dominican (N.Y.) in two of the last three seasons, marking the fourth time in program history that the Eagles have swept the season series against the Lady Chargers
  • The victory for Post University puts them at 10-9 in conference play, ensuring they will finish at least .500 in conference play for the seventh consecutive year

WHO'S NEXT
Post University closes the regular season on the road against Georgian Court University this Saturday at 2:30 PM. The Eagles will look to avenge an early-season loss to the Lions at home, 69-60, which snapped their nine-game winning streak in the all-time series.
