WATERBURY, Conn. -- So far this season, junior wide receiver
Josh Tracey has been on a tear for Post University Football, and on Sunday afternoon, the Avon, Connecticut native was honored with the New England Football Writers Association Gold Helmet Award for Week 3, marking the first time in program history in which an Eagle has been a recipient of the weekly honor that encompasses all Division II and Division III schools in the New England region.
Tracey led the Eagle offensive attack this week against Pace University in the team's first-ever conference matchup in school history. For the second time this season, Tracey had over 100 kick return yards, going for 117 total and one touchdown which was on a kickoff return for 91 yards. The junior also snagged five receptions for 148 yards and a program record-tying 74-yard touchdown grab for the longest touchdown reception in school history while tacking on three yards rushing. In all, Tracey finished the day with 268 all-purpose yards, five receptions, two carries, two kick return attempts, and two touchdowns in the 23-21 loss for Post. His 268 all-purpose yards rank second all-time for a single game after he set the program record in the first game of the season at home with 311 all-purpose yards in that win.
Currently, Tracey enters Week 4 leading the nation in all-purpose yards with 696 on 23 plays in three games just ahead of Pace's Tyreek Smith at 629 all-purpose yards on 33 plays in three games. In kickoff return touchdowns, Tracey is tied for the lead in the nation with two alongside Kha'lil Eason of New Haven and Nanders Lawrence of Allen while leading the nation in kickoff return yardage at 298 yards on six kicks for an average of 49.7 yards per kickoff return.
On the receiving side of things, Tracey is fifth in the nation for receiving yards per game at 126.7 which is just 13 yards off the pace of Reggie Retzlaff of CSU Pueblo for the national lead, tied for eighth in the nation with six total touchdowns this season, and leading the nation in yards per reception with an average of 31.67 yards after having 12 receptions for 380 yards in three games to start the year.
Post University prepares for its Friday night matchup against Assumption University, which is scheduled for 6:00 PM on the road in Worcester, Massachusetts.
