CACC Baseball Preseason Poll 2024

Looking to Defend Regular Season Title, Baseball Tabbed to Finish First in North Division

WATERBURY, Conn. -- After winning the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Regular Season title with a 22-3 conference record last season, Post University is on the prowl for their first conference championship in program history. In the CACC Baseball Preseason Coaches Poll released earlier today, the Eagles were picked to win the North Division for the third straight year, narrowly over last year's CACC Champions in Felician University.

It was the Golden Falcons who prevented Post from winning their first-ever CACC title after defeating them in the decisive final game of the CACC Championship, 7-5, after breaking open a three-run lead in the fifth inning with the game tied at four en route to the eventual championship win at Municipal Stadium.

For the Eagles, it will be somewhat of a run-it-back year on the offensive side of the baseball as the Eagles will return Jimmy Brennan, Michael Pavelchak, DJ Caron, Danny Gill, Evan Cornwell, Hunter Keller, and Chris Corchado. Post lost Robert Olah, Shane Lindemuth, and Matt Goehrig to graduation, all of which contributed a combined 16 home runs, 81 runs batted in, and 28 extra base hits (excluding home runs).

Goehrig led that trio with 14 home runs, 47 RBIs, and a .320 batting average in 46 games last season while tacking on nine doubles and a triple.

As for the pitching, the Eagles will also return most of their reliable arms with the exception of Goehrig who made 12 appearances and seven starts en route to a 3.54 earned run average, 55 strikeouts, 35 walks, 19 earned runs, and a 5-1 record. Also leaving was Dan Raglievich who appeared in 14 games as well as made a team-high 11 starts for Post in which he finished 4-4 with a 4.48 ERA, a complete game, 68 strikeouts, 33 walks, and 33 earned runs.

Jacob Tamburrino was another bullpen arm the Eagles could rely on last year as he finished with five saves in 16 appearances while going 2-2 with a 4.18 ERA in 23 2/3 innings although allowed just 1 earned runs in that span.

In all, the North Division saw Post finished first with 56 points and six first-place votes while Felician was right behind them with 55 points and five first-place votes. Dominican (N.Y.), University of Bridgeport, Caldwell University, and Bloomfield College rounded out the rest. In the South Division, three teams received first-place votes with Goldey-Beacom College recording the most with six followed by Wilmington University and Jefferson University with three and two respectively.

The Post Baseball season is fast approaching as they will get underway down in Florida in just over a week from now with three games in three days against Palm Beach Atlantic University, Nove Southeastern University, and Lynn University next weekend. The Eagles were ranked eighth in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association East Region Preseason Poll released last week and play their first home game at Municipal Stadium in just under two months on March 16th against Southern New Hampshire University in a Saturday afternoon doubleheader starting at 1:00 PM.
