Schrage Goes Seven Strong, Leads Baseball to 8-5 Victory Against Dominican (N.Y.)

WATERBURY, Conn. –  Freshman right-hander Jacob Schrage threw seven dominant innings for Post University Baseball in Wednesday afternoon's matinee against Dominican (N.Y.) at home, holding the Charger offense to just two runs as the Eagles took the rubber match between the two teams, 8-5, snapping a three-game losing streak.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Graduate infielder Hunter Keller had a big day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs, including a big three-run double in the fifth that helped blow the game open for the Eagles, who led 6-2 after that hit. Keller's hit came after senior catcher Manny Contreras gave Post the lead with his RBI single, which scored graduate outfielder Andrew Hartman. For Hartman, he saw his on-base streak extended to 21 games with a 1-for-4 day, while Contreras was a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBIs, three runs scored, and a walk.

Going 2-for-3 in the contest was freshman infielder Max DeFrancesco, as he hit his second home run of the season, a two-run homer in the seventh inning, that helped extend Post's lead to six runs, 8-2. DeFrancesco closed with two RBIs, two runs scored, and a walk, while securing the top of the seventh in Schrage's start, taking a bouncing ball off the bat from junior infielder Chad Falcon to close the book on the freshman.

Moving to 4-0 on the mound this year, Schrage allowed just two runs on five hits with four walks and three strikeouts on 104 pitches, outdueling senior pitcher John Stoliker from the Chargers, who allowed six runs on nine hits with five strikeouts, three walks, and a hit batter. After junior right-hander Dalton Wright lasted just 1/3 of an inning, giving up a run, freshman right-hander Andrew Hardin would come into the game, looking to close out the game by getting the final five outs.

Hardin would allow a run in the eighth via sophomore infielder Pablo Guevara's RBI single, snapping his streak in which he had not allowed a run in eight straight appearances, as Dominican (N.Y.) pulled within four heading into the ninth, 8-4. The drama would continue in the ninth as the first three batters for the Chargers reached base, leading to Falcon singling in a run, bringing the tying run to the plate with still nobody out. But Hardin would come back to retire the next three Dominican (N.Y.) hitters, securing the 8-5 win for the Eagles, who took the season series from the Chargers with the victory.
