Waterbury, CT – Matt Goehrig was named to the 2023 Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-East Region Baseball First Team after a record-breaking season.
It was another honor for Goehrig, who was named to both the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) First Team and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Second Team.
Goehrig, who made the team as a utility/pitcher batted .320 with 14 home runs, 41 hits, 40 runs scored and 47 RBI and finishing with a .734 slugging percentage. Goehrig ranked second in the CACC in home runs and slugging percentage, fourth in RBI and ninth in total bases. He set a program record with home runs in a season and the all-time program record, finishing his career with 31. He also had a three-homer game in a win over Chestnut Hill.
As a pitcher, Goehrig went 5-1 with one save and a 3.54 ERA with 55 strikeouts in 48.1 innings. He also averaged 10.24 strikeouts per game. He had nine strikeouts in a CACC Tournament win over Wilmington, allowing just one earned run on six hits in seven innings. He had five games with at least six strikeouts.
During the CACC Tournament, Goehrig hit three home runs, accounting for all the home runs in the tournament and was named to the CACC All-Tournament team.
This is the second straight season an Eagle has made the D2CCA All-East Region Team as last season
Robert Olah made the second team in 2022.
