Men’s Hockey Defeats Stonehill On Senior Night

Shelton, Conn. – Four different Eagles scored as the Post University men's hockey team defeated Stonehill, 4-1 in a Northeast-10 (NE10) game Friday evening at The Rinks at Shelton.

Post is now 8-13-1 on the season and 6-8-1 in the NE10 and sit in fourth place in the conference.

The Eagles struck first at the 16:30 mark in the first period as John Krapian deflected the shot of Harrison Sheldon into the net for his team-leading eighth goal of the season. He has scored in three straight games for the Eagles. Post went into the first intermission leading 1-0.

Stonehill tied the game at the 5:21 mark of the second period, until the Eagles scored exactly 13 minutes later as Chase Lapworth fed Michael Gethings a beautiful pass on a breakaway in front of the net and Gethings stuffed it home for his first career goal and putting the Eagles up, 2-1 a lead they would carry into the third period.

It didn't take long for the Eagles to add another tally on the board as Evan Lugo took the puck from one end to the other on a breakaway and ripped a wrist shot over the left shoulder of Stonehill goalkeeper John Day to give the Eagles a 3-1 lead
just 47 seconds into the third. Post added an empty net goal from

Patrick Murphy, his seventh of the season for the final goal of the game.

Brandon Brown finished with 27 saves on the day.

The Eagles took 31 shot on goal, led by Nick Brewer with five. Krapian won 15 of his 19 faceoffs.

Prior to the game, eight Eagles were honored for Senior Night. Nolan Arbuckle, Brandon Brown, Justin Brown, Harrison Sheldon, John Krapian, Bill Purdue, Evan Lugo and Jake Raleigh were all honored.

"Senior Night is always an emotional time, so I was pleased how the team focused and played for each other. From the net out, we won this one together," head coach Pete Whitney said.
