New Haven, Conn. – The Post University men's hockey team kicked off 2022 with a 5-3 win over Albertus Magnus in non-conference game on Tuesday evening in a non-conference game.
Five different Eagles scored as they moved to 5-6 on the season. They have now won three of their last four games.
With the first period appearing to end with no goals,
Kieran Gardner scored with 13 seconds remaining on a power play, taking a pass from
Niko Grollman five feet in front of the blue line and ripping a shot past Albertus Magnus (7-5) goaltender Logan Bateman to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. It was Gardner's fourth goal of the season.
After the Falcons tied the game up just 1:12 into the second period, the Eagles added their second power play goal of the game as a rebound off a shot from Grollman went to
John Krapian who tipped a pass to
Patrick Murphy who stuffed it in the net for his second goal of the season.
Post took a two-goal lead on their third power play goal of the day as
Michael Karas scored his first goal of the season, as
Chase Lapworth made a pass from behind the goal line right in front of the net to Karas who punched home his second goal of the season.
The Eagles took a three goal lead at the 8:04 mark of the third period as Grollman notched his third assist of the game on a 2-on-1 breakaway passing it to a streaking
Jake Raleigh who put a shot past the glove side of Bateman to put Post up 4-1 for his third goal of the season.
After conceding a goal at the 9:34 mark,
Connor Barter would put the game away less than a minute later as he picked up a loose puck in the offensive zone after a Falcons player fell to ice and stuffed the puck past Bateman for his second goal of the season.
The five goals for the Eagles tied a season-high for the Eagles who also scored five times in a win over Assumption on November 6. The three power-play goals were also a season-high.
Grollman's three points were a season-high from a Post player this season.
In net,
Brandon Brown won his fourth game of the season, stopping 34 shots on the day.
"We played one of the most complete games of the season today," Post University men's hockey head coach
Pete Whitney said.
Up next, the Eagles will get back to NE10 play for the beginning of a five-game homestand as they take on Southern New Hampshire University at 7 p.m. at The Rinks at Shelton.
